As all Speakers, Kande was chosen as a child to be the next Speaker. When he came of age he put the sign of The Speaker on his mask and spent all day sitting with the last Speaker, listening to stories and memorizing them. He did nothing else for thirty nine years. When he was fifty two his Speaker passed and he burned his mask and accepted his new role. Since then he worked tirelessly to keep their traditions, and population, alive. He began to take drastic measures which included inviting outsiders to join their tribe and take on the traditions of their people. This came under some fire as it is a major change from the norm, however the belief that his choices are coming directly from the gods keeps anyone from saying too much in protest.
